Killer Bourbon is a bourbon and whiskey collection manager and tasting journal. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. The short version: your collection is private by default, we never track your location, we don't show ads, and we never sell your data.
Who can use the app
Killer Bourbon is for adults of legal drinking age — 21 or older in the United States. We ask for your date of birth when you create an account to verify this. Your date of birth is stored privately and is never shown to other users.
What we collect
- Account details — email address, username, display name, optional profile photo and bio, and your date of birth (age verification only).
- Your content — the bottles you track, tasting notes and ratings, photos you add, reviews, posts, comments, and lists. This is the point of the app.
- Social connections — who you follow, friend, mute, or block inside the app.
- Store locations you report — Bottle Spotting records the store's location that you type or pick, never yours. We do not collect or store your GPS location. If you allow location access, it is used only to sort store search results near you and is never saved.
- Purchase status — if you subscribe, Apple processes the payment and our subscription partner (RevenueCat) tells us your subscription status. We never see your card details.
- Diagnostics — crash reports and basic device information (via Sentry) so we can fix bugs. These are tied to a random account id, not your name or email.
- Push tokens — only if you turn notifications on; you control which types in Settings.
AI features
If you use the AI label scanner, the photo you take of a bottle label is sent to our AI provider (Anthropic) to identify the bottle, then the result is matched against our catalog. Label photos are used only to answer your scan — they are not used to train AI models.
How your content is shared
Everything defaults to private. Tasting notes, pours, and photos are visible only to you unless you explicitly choose Friends or Everyone when posting. Public catalog contributions (a new bottle you add for the community) are visible to all users and attributed to your username.
Services we rely on
These companies process data on our behalf to run the app. We share only what each needs to do its job:
- Supabase — database, authentication, and photo storage (hosted in the US).
- Apple — subscription payments and TestFlight/App Store delivery.
- RevenueCat — subscription status management.
- Anthropic — AI bottle-label identification.
- Mapbox — store name search when you log a purchase or spotting.
- Sentry — crash and error reporting.
- Resend — transactional email (sign-up confirmation, account emails).
We never sell your personal information, and we don't share it with advertisers. There are no ads in Killer Bourbon.
Deleting your account
Your rights
You can access and update your information in the app, export your collection (My Bunker → ⋯ → Export), and delete your account as described above. Depending on where you live (for example California or the EU), you may have additional legal rights to access, correct, or delete your data — email us and we'll help.
Data retention & security
We keep your data while your account is active. Data is encrypted in transit, access is restricted with row-level security, and payment details never touch our servers. No system is perfectly secure, but we build with security first.
Changes to this policy
If we make meaningful changes, we'll update this page and the date above, and note it in the app when the change matters.
